Are You Bothered by Social Media?

This is not a motivational speech.

Social Media is full of extremists.

One side of the extremism divide, the people who only share the roses, the shinny parts of their lives... they make you envious, they make you wish you have their lives. Think about them too much and you'll be thrown into depression, like your life is meaningless.

"Everyone else is having it easy, making money, travelling the world, getting married but look at me."

Another side of the extremism divide, the people who only share thorns, the gory parts of their lives... they make you anxious, they make you detest life, they make you feel like it always will end in tears. Think about them too much and you'll be thrown into a dangerous state of anxiety, like nothing you do will ever be truly successful. Cynicism, paranoia.

"Nobody is to be trusted. They'll backstab you. They'll cheat on you. They'll defraud you. Run. Be scared! Run."

Simply put, social Media is free access to mental wreckage. As we spend more time on it, immersing ourselves in its free-flowing, unfiltered content, our mental health goes down the dip.

Unfortunately, it appears that we're doomed because as much as this extremes keep tearing us apart, we keep getting addicted to them. It's like an abusive relationship. We keep finding excuses for staying with a toxic partner.
